In 2020, we collaborated with Adelaide Zoo to create an illuminated installation for the inaugural Illuminate Adelaide winter festival. Our goal was to design a unique experience that would captivate audiences while raising awareness for endangered animals.
The project blossomed into a stunning showcase featuring four large-scale illuminated installations with immersive soundscapes: the Rolling Pandas, the Dreamtime Skink, the Underwater World, and the Towering Giraffes.
The interactive nighttime experience, titled Light Creatures, premiered at Adelaide Zoo in July 2021 and ran for four weeks, enchanting visitors with its magical atmosphere and commitment to wildlife conservation
Electric Kingdom in Melbourne ran for eight nights in September 2023, attracting tens of thousands of visitors to experience A Blanck Canvas' stunning giant illuminated animal installations, world-class roving performers, and captivating lighting displays.
This walk-through event featured a collection of magnificent, oversized animal installations that "scale up" nature, offering audiences a fresh perspective on wildlife. Each installation showcases unique characteristics, including kinetic movements, multi-creature compositions, and immersive storytelling elements, along with the ability to be puppeteered and roam throughout the venue.
Enhanced by distinctive lighting designs and original soundscapes, Electric Kingdom was made possible with the support of the Victorian Government and the City of Melbourne, captivating over 48,000 guests during its run.
For three exciting weeks in March, Hillarys Boat Harbour came alive each night as Electric Kingdom made its triumphant debut in Perth. The immersive experience dazzled attendees at the Joondalup Festival with eight stunning installations and roaming puppets.
A highlight was the introduction of new lighting installations by After Dark Theatre, along with the captivating new addition: Yaakan, the Snake-Necked Turtle. In collaboration with Indigenous artists Kambarni and Boox Kid, Yaakan—known as Yaaka Booyi or Choonya in Noongar—made a grand entrance, highlighting its cultural significance and status as ‘near threatened’ in the Joondalup region.
Standing 6 meters tall, Yaakan featured intricate engineering for lifelike movements, including a retractable head. Constructed from patterned EPE foam and illuminated by thousands of embedded LEDs, the installation illuminated Hillarys Boat Harbour, promoting awareness of endangered species and the importance of Indigenous storytelling in the community.
At the start of 2024, A Blanck Canvas partnered with Ithra Museum to create a special Arabian edition of Electric Kingdom in honour of Ramadan. Our dedicated team spent three months designing five magnificent installations and puppets tailored for the local community in Saudi Arabia.
Among the creations were an elegant Arabian Horse, two towering Fennec Foxes, and a formidable Giant Striped Hyena. The ensemble also featured four graceful Oryxes, representative of the region's wildlife, and five vibrant Flamingos that captivated nighttime crowds with their bright colours.
Each puppet and installation was crafted to reflect the cultural spirit of Saudi Arabia, blending local flavour with international spectacle. We were honoured to contribute to the celebration of Ramadan and to engage with the community during this joyous festive season.
Our Electric Kingdom features an enchanting array of roving puppet performances that bring the magical experience to life as they explore the kingdom. From large chassis-based puppets to giant inflatable tigers that roar with captivating soundscapes, each character captivates audiences with its unique charm.
Playful crabs scuttle through the crowds, while a vibrant parade of tuna fish glides along, inviting laughter and wonder from both children and adults.
These delightful puppets interact with spectators as they navigate the illuminated pathways, enhancing the immersive atmosphere. Every corner of Electric Kingdom transforms into an interactive experience, inviting guests to step into a world of magic and imagination.
Each iteration of Electric Kingdom sees A Blanck Canvas creating a novel lighting spectacle. Each lighting installation imbues the night skies with awe and intensity.
The scope for additional lighting embellishments is boundless, allowing for full creative expression.
A Blanck Canvas stand ready to illuminate any concept, irrespective of its nature, provided there is both an idea and space available.
It is evident that lighting constitutes the foremost element in animating an illuminated festival, infusing it with vitality and vibrancy.
